Interesting things which happened this week:

Most important things this week were behind curtains:

• First test units were created and already helped to fix some bugs
• Database for thumbnails is under heavy testing, DB internal for digiKam could give:
  • savings in HD space (even today it is problem with big collections, internal DB will save 75% of space comparing to .thumbnails solution)
  • faster creation of thumbnails and loading them later making for smoother experience
  • thumbnails for images in off-line storage will be always visible

  NOTE: DB support is not compiled by default, use -DENABLE_THUMBS_DB=ON cmake switch if you want to test it, or turn it on later with the ccmake command.

Outstanding work this week was done on:

• First visible effect of porting to Qt4 model list view: overlays over image thumbnails. When hovering with mouse over "plate" user will see small icons for loss-less rotating of image, rating, selection and probably more in future. Icons are faded in and out with nice looking animation, also rating widget interaction was improved.

  

• roadmap to next release, finally 1.0!
• usability fixes
• attempt to speed up loading of thumbnails by compromise on quality,
• after tests idea was mostly rejected; implemented "cheat scaling" for
• generation of thumbnails
• instead beginning of thumbnails cache separate from .thumbnails standard:

In this week there was mostly continuation of last week work:

- New expander widget in all plugins and whole interface

- fixing of memory leaks
- making MSVC happy (many thanks to developers working on MS-Windows
who are sending patches!)
- preparation for libkdcraw 1.0
- polishing and cleaning of code
- making sure that MS-Windows users will get warm welcome (fixing issues
with welcome page in good shape)

This week in digiKam:

• taking care about MS-Windows; to quote Andi: "Hope MSVC is happy now."
• new expander box widget for easier display of data in main GUI and all plugins:





• continuing work on Content Aware Resize plugin




• optimizations, optimizations, OPTIMIZATIONS!
• usability fixes
• bug fixing, with concentration on memory leaks
• new Qt4 ModelView for Album GUI available in SVN

Usual portion of bug fixes and polishing. In addition:

- main part of port to Qt4 ListModel view done
- improving of Content Aware Resize plugin
- polishing of Free Rotation interface
- optimizations in thumbanils view
- proof-reading of digiKam interface
- introduction of tool to sanitize digiKam database from time to time
- making sure everything compile on MS-Windows

This week we see work on Qt4 List Model View which will make many things
possible, among them:

- small overlay icons to performa basic actions (like in Gwenview, Lightroom)
- color labels
- more status indications

Further work on Content Aware Resize plugin with many patches. Polishing of
Free Rotation plugin interface.

Removing of last elements of Qt3 code from under the hood.

New functionality for Batch Queue Manager - welcome Matthias!
