Dear all digiKam fans and users!

The digiKam development team is happy to release the 2nd beta release dedicated to KDE4. The digiKam tarball can be downloaded from SourceForge.

Take care, it's always a BETA code with many of new bugs not yet fixed... To resume:

"DO NOT USE YET IN PRODUCTION"

digiKam can write JPEG2000 metadata on the fly...

Et voila...

...by the same way than TIFF and PNG, digiKam is now able to write JPEG2000 metadata on the fly. I have just patched Exiv2 library for that. See below a video demo of digiKam from KDE4 in action working with Metadata Editor over a JPEG2000 file and writting digiKam info to another PNG file.

digiKam and PNG metadata writting mode on the fly

It's holliday time for me currently. Since two week, i still in south of France near Mediterranean sea. Summer is nice to play on the beach with my familly.

But for my hot brain, it's difficult to still without a little programming task to do for open-source world...

Here i don't have a speed internet connection. My laptop (a Toshiba Satellite) has a winmodem which run only under Windows Vista. It's not easy to sync my local copy of current subversion implementation of digiKam and co. So i need to work on other important stuff where source code no need to be synchronized every day to play with it: Exiv2

digiKam 0.10.0-beta1 release for KDE4

Dear all digiKam fans and users!

The digiKam development team is happy to release the first beta release for KDE4. The digiKam tarball can be downloaded from SourceForge.

0.10.0-search02

After one year of developement, porting code to KDE4/Qt4 api, and backporting new features from KDE3 branch, we have decided to make a first try with this beta release.

But take care, it's a BETA code with many of new bugs not yet fixed... To resume:

Preparing first 0.10.0-beta1 for KDE4...

There is one year, Marcel and me we have started to port digiKam code to Qt4/KDE4. Yes, already one year of work...Tempus fugit...

digikam.org re-designed...

Since few weeks ago, the whole web site have been re-designed. The following task have been done:

digiKam Can Writte TIFF/DNG Metadata on The Fly

Like i have previously said in this post, for the next major release of Exiv2, the Tiff metadata writting mode will be available.

Due to a lack of Exif metadata support in libtiff, we cannot use this library to backup all metadata from a converted RAW file. We cannot use this library to play with the metadata section only without touching the whole image data. Of course we use libtiff in editor to convert image to Tiff, but that's all.

Exiv2 0.17.1 is out...

Today, Andreas Huggel has released Exiv2 library version 0.17.1. It's an important bugs fix release. It provides fixes for a build issue on OS X, a bug that didn't allow to delete the last XMP tag and several potential crashes. I recommend to update your local copy to use with digiKam... See changelog for details.

Remember this library is the core implementation used to manage and manipulate photo metadata. In digiKam 0.10.0, Exiv2 is used to play with XMP, thrue our libkexiv2 KDE interface.
