Given that the only thing that really matters is digital camera support, and none of the digital cameras use an open source stack that I know of, isn't it kind of impossible for Open Source to come up with a less-patent-laden standard (I'm sure a patent-free standard is pretty much impossible).

If they go through a ISO process hopefully they'll open up the specs enough to allow open source implementations...
