Installing a package
You can install digiKam by way of a pre-compiled version of digiKam. This is done by your distribution. A disadvantage is that in some cases the version provided by your distribution is not the latest stable version the digiKam team has released.
On this page we provide some usefull tips for getting a slightly more up-to-date version. We will not show you how to install the normal version of digiKam version provided by your distribution as this can be found on the site of your distribution.
Ubuntu
The list of Digikam packages in Ubuntu can be found here here.
Warning Ubuntu Karmic contains Digikam 1.0.0beta 5 which crashes while importing pictures, please install a more recent version from backports.
Debian
Debian repositories are mostly up to date, release candidates and beta's usually are available from the experimental repository.

Arch Linux
The latest Digikam stable release is provided in Arch Linux's Extra repository, simply type "pacman -Sy digikam" to install the package.

Ark Linux
Digikam is provided in Ark Linux's normal apt repository, you can simply "apt-get install digikam" it without adding any extra repositories or the likes.
Mandriva Linux
Mandriva repositories are mostly up to date. Release candidates and beta's usually are available from the cooker repository.
SUSE

Fedora

FreeBSD
The list of Digikam packages in FreshPorts can be found here.
Mac OS X
Packages can be obtained via fink or Mac Ports.
Windows
Digikam for windows can be obtained via the KDE windows installer.
