Working on a advanced Raw image import tool for digiKam image editor

There are severals entries in bugzilla about to be able to set a customized settings for each RAW image imported in editor. This is a advanced vision for photograph which want to adjust finely all settings during RAW workflow. I have started to implement a Raw Import tool for image editor. The first demo is available below:

See the full screen video (ogg - 6Mb)

This video is an uncomplete version of the tool in action, including all RAW decoding settings. Zooming and Panning is possible. Histogram is available to control exposure finely. It still a lots of stuff to do, especially with color management settings to include as well.

Awesome!

I already think Digikam is great, the main thing I've missed from it is exactly it being able to better handle RAW photos.

Good step!

This will be a bigger step towards a more professional program than many others!

not sure

Sorry to say that, but I'm not sure whether it is a good idea ;). There are better tools for that (ufraw, rawtherapee, lightzone) and digikam will not reach their features within a year or more. I would focus on integrating some of them e.g. rawtherapee. I use digikam when importing/viewing and indexing. Especially, the viewing feature is very fast (perhaps beacuse of using embedded thumbnails instead of developing the raw every time the image is to be displayed, but I'm not sure whether it is done in that way). When I want to develop raw, I start with dcraw on all files using other computer and nfs (I have celeron 1.7G on my laptop ... ;). Then, if I want focus on some better pictures, I start ufraw or rawtherapee. To sum up, you will not bit raw developers and raw developers cannot be used without digikam.
