Working on Camera GUI...

Since i have buy a new USB mass Storage camera (Dynax 5D-Minolta), I have started to work to improve digiKam camera interface. The tasks already done to 0.9.0 alpha from svn are :

1 - Using image Properties SideBar like others digiKam part to display image file properties and Exif informations.
2 - The capability to display Exif informations from RAW files using THM (thumbnail) files provide by recent camera. These THM file are small JPEG like file including all JPEG metadata...

The pending tasks outside 0.9.0 issue are :

1 - The capability to display exif data from RAW/TIFF files directly when it possible.
2 - LossLess convertion on the fly with all metadata backup. The PNG file format will be used in a first time, TIFF file format will doing later.

memory_eating_camera-connection

Hello Gilles,
my wife has big problems downloading some hundred files from the camera (Canon G3 & EOS-350D). The memory runs full and then the swap, too - argh...
This problem exists since 0.5 to 0.8.1. (SUSE 9.x & 10.0)
I found some month ago a discussion about not freeing some memory-areas in one prog/lib while downloading from camera and thougt the problem will be solved...
We switched to a USB-Cardreader but as mass-storage-camera the problem is the same.
Will be there a solution?
Greetings from Germany

Improvements for file naming

There are two small things I would like to see:
First, for some pictures the date is enough for the name together with a increasing number - I do not need the time. It would be nice if you can split the "Date and Time" checkbox into two.

Second, it would be cool if the "customize names" would have the set/album name as default (or if that option would be an additional checkbox).
I often want to enter the name of the album and want to use the album name together with an increasing number for the pictures - it feels strange to have to enter the name twice.

I know that these are small things, but I would like them :)
