Following the policy of the digiKam community to offer a high quality product to everybody, we are proud to present the new digiKam and DigikamImagePlugins 0.9.0-beta3 release. As usual, these news packages have a lot of bugs fixed and improved features. Here's the summary of fixes:
134013 : Tag menu extremely slow.
122653 : File-dialog claims that pictures are not on the local-storage, yet they are.
134091 : dcraw -n option not valid for version > 8.15.
134224 : prefix for image filename in camera dialog not working
133359 : Google maps support to show location of the photos.

125727 : digiKam open with of raw file only shows application for octet-stream.
135430 : Typo automatically should be automatically in raw image converter.
135060 : Folders without pictures in it cannot be assigned icons

Here we go again: another step beyond on the path to the first stable release of the 0.9 series for digiKam and digikamImagePlugins.
After a period of hard and intensive work, the digiKam community brings to you all the new digiKam and DigikamImagePlugins 0.9.0-beta2 releases with some new features, and others have been improved:
New option to start image sequence number index with a custom value.
New option to add camera name to target download file name.
New option to create download folder per file format (e.g. JPG and CR2)
New option to set date format of auto-created albums.
New option to process a batch creation of all albums items thumbnails.
New option to set image as tag thumbnail on Tag Filters View using D&D.
New option to set a matching condition to use between tags in Tag Filters View (OR or AND condition).

We are pleased to announce digiKam 0.8.1. This version brings raw support,
new icons, image rating, printing enhancements and in the meanwhile we also fixed some bugs.
The noteworthy features in this release:
You are now able to rate your images from 1 start to 5 stars. In the search
part of digiKam, you can search for images with a certain rating.
A new theme has been added, the 'Dessert' theme.
8 bit raw support has been added, you can now view those images in the
imageviewer. In digiKam version 0.9.0 there will be 16 bit raw support.
copy & paste support has been added, you can copy between albums and from
konqueror to digiKam.
dcop functions have been added to open the camera dialog at a certain path
or start the autodetect function similar to the command line option

showfoto can now open a directory with images in there
automatically adjust orientation of printing depending on the image
For the next digiKam releases (0.8.1 and 0.9.0), we need photographs for digiKam and Showfoto splashscreens...
SplashScreen is a simple way for users to contribute to digiKam project. The pictures must be correctly exposed/composed, and the subject must be chosen from a real photographer inspiration. Note that we will add a horizontal frame to the bottom of the image as in the current splashs.

The digiKam team is pleased to bring to you the next generation of the user-friendly digital photo management software and its image plugins. The primary focus for this release is new ways of photo organization and searching. We hope it will be as much fun for you to use it as we had developing it.

Albums and Tags have been separated out into different views and these views are collapsible.
The new digikam image library DImg now supports ICC profiles
using littlecms. littlecms is
an open source color management engine which is used by krita as well and installed by
default on most linux distributions. It was added by the new digiKam contributor Paco.
We will add a dedicated ICC profile setup page to the configuration dialog and a new
image plugin to apply ICC profiles manually later.It is necessary to use the ICC profiles with 16 bit RAW files. Dcraw doesn't
provide automatic color correction, so the RAW image will appear black in the image editor
if no ICC profile is used.Read more →
