Dear all digiKam fans and users!

The digiKam development team is happy to release 0.9.4-rc1. The digiKam tarball can be downloaded from SourceForge.

NEW FEATURES (since 0.9.3):

General : external libsqlite3 dependency removed. sqlite3 source code is now included in digiKam core (see bug #160966).
General : English words review in whole GUI by Oliver Dörr.
General : Updated internal CImg library to last stable 1.2.8 (released at 2008/04/18).
General : New search text filter for all metadata sidebar tabs.
General : New dialog to list all RAW camera supported. A search camera model tool is available to easily find a camera from list.
General : Creation of tags simplified everywhere. Multiple tags hierarchy can be created at the same time. Tags creation dialog re-designed.
General : Color theme scheme are pervasively applied in graphical interfaces, giving digiKam a real pro-look when dark schemes are selected.
General : Color theme scheme can be changed from either Editor or LightTable.
General : Add capability to display items count in all Album, Date, Tags, and Tags Filter folder views. The number of items contained in virtual or physical albums can be displayed next to its name. If a tree branch is collapsed, parent views sum-up the number of items from all undisplayed children views. Items count is performed in background by digiKam KIO-Slaves. A new option from Setup/Album dialog page can toggle on/off this feature.

digiKam has a new Find Duplicates Images Tool

After my first post about the new Fuzzy Searches tools included in digiKam for KDE4 to find images using sketch or to find similars images, a new search tool is now done to find all duplicates items around all collections.

This tool have been done in the way to replace the old FindImages kipi-plugins from KDE3. See below the dialog layout of this plugin:

This last one do not provide a graphical interface fully integrated with digiKam, and usability is not fine. The new tool is not a kipi-plugin. It have been implemented in digiKam core, and use the new Haar wavelets information stored in database. It's more simple to use and faster. See below a screenshot of digiKam Find Duplicate tool:

digiKam Fuzzy Search Tools Under Construction

One month ago, with Marcel, we have worked on a new sets of Search Tools in digiKam for KDE4, called Fuzzy Search

During my digiKam presentation at LGM2008 i have introduced the concept to be able to search duplicates items around the whole collection of photos. But the concept is not just limited to find the similars photos by using copy, it even allows user to drawn a sketch of photo what user memories and shows photos what has similar shapes and colors as on sketch.

New digiKam Lens Auto-Correction Tool

digiKam for KDE4 will become with another important tool for photograph: lens distortions auto-correction. The plugin have been created by Adrian Schroeter from OpenSuse team.

This tool have been implemented as a new image editor plugin. It use LensFun shared library witch provide a database of lens settings to fix optical distortions automatically. The tool use picture metadata to find the right settings to apply (Exif and Makernotes). You can adjust yourself all parameters if you need.

digiKam Map Search Tool Under Construction

After to have improved the geo-location view from right sidebar in digiKam for KDE4, following this blog entry, the story continue with a new powerful search tool based on Marble Widget to be able to find pictures using a map.

The new digiKam search backend implemented by Marcel is already able to perform a search based on a rectangle area defined by GPS positions. Now, we need a suitable graphical interface for end users.
